Dawn Rose maintenance volunteers needed
THE narrowboat Dawn Rose is the only Chesterfield Canal boat in existence and was rebuilt over four years by a group of volunteers at Shireoaks Marina, where it is moored.
The same group now maintains it and takes it out on horse boating demonstrations, such as the annual Sponsored Boat Pull.
More members wanted
Though it has a regular maintenance team more members are wanted to keep the boat in good condition, with four session days being held in November for interested people to come along to see what is involved.
These will be on Saturdays' 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon at Shireoaks Marina, Marina Drive, Shireoaks, S81 8NQ.
Experience not required
No previous experience is required and any Trust member would be welcome to attend—contact Michael Edwards by email on
But remember to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for working in the open and on potentially slippery surfaces.
