Slough Canal Festival this week-end

Published: Thursday, 05 September 2019

THIS week-end sees the Slough Canal Festival that is free to the public.

Held in Bloom Park in the town from 11am to 5pm on both days this has proved a popular event for many years attracting both people and boats, Alan Tilbury reports.

Displays and performances

Not only is it free entry but free vehicle parking too, with displays and performances in the main arena and much more.

This year there will be boat trips, steam engine train trips and trips on Trevor the Tractor.

There will be displays and stalls of of all kinds. Plenty for adults to do and see and even more for the children, with Lynsey Hellewell, the council’s events organiser, explaining:

“We love hosting this event every year. It always draws great crowds of people who enjoy spending time by the canal and watching the arena shows.”

Canal-side development

At the event members of the public can find out more about plans for a canal-side development in the town with the team behind the Stoke Wharf development, near the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal, hosting a stall at the event.

This will give residents the chance to view the proposals, which include plans for up to 200 homes and new cycleways at the site which is near Bowyer Recreation Ground.
