Montgomery Canal breached

THE Montgomery Canal breached yesterday with both canal and towpath now closed.

This was discovered on Sunday morning as the pound lost its water between Pool Quay Lock and Crowther Hall Lock, Keith Gudgin reports.

Collapsed culvert

The cause is at present being investigated, but it is thought that a culvert has collapsed allowing the failure.

Canal and River Trust state that both the canal and towpath will remain closed 'until further notice'.

This is a great blow to those who have worked so tirelessly, against many obstacles, in their attempt to re-open this waterway to navigation.
