Getting good at Fake News

IF THERE is one award that could be given by Canal & River Trust to itself, it is for Fake News, writes James Henry.

There is the very long standing one of its calculation of visitors (or visits) to its waterways, then there were the  self-promoting 'Live Waterways Awards'. With one to a waterway that is definitely 'dead'! So obviously Fake News!

Withstood it

As someone [Victor] pointed out, in the old days heavily laden boats with no engine must have bashed gates time and time again and they withstood it, but now failure after failure of obviously badly maintained gates is being blamed on boaters, even though they have much more control than the working boats.

The latest Fake News is it telling the BBC that a boater in a rush left all the paddles open and drained the Kennet & Avon, yet every boater knows that if you are 'in a rush' you can only leave the paddles on the gate(s) you leave the lock.  If those on the other gates are open, nothing works!

Are those at CaRT so thick they don't realise this?  (Don't answer that!)
