Peak Forest Canal closed until March

THOUGH Canal & River Trust promised that the failed lock on the Marple Flight would be repaired and open in January, this has been but back until March.

The failure is the wall of Lock 15 that has moved, and though it was stated the flight would be closed 'indefinitely', after complaints the Trust told it would be open in January, Keith Gudgin tells us.

No reason given

It is not known  if this was a 'red herring' or not, but the latest date for its opening is now the 16th of March, though no reason is given for the delay.

The closure of the Marple Flight means there is no connection via the Macclesfield Canal to the Huddersfield Narrow or the Rochdale canals, except by a detour using the Bridgewater Canal.
