Since we have been away...

THE Grand Union Canal was closed at Old Ford Lock (8) at Hackney on Monday until further notice.

This closure has been caused by the bottom gate paddle frame becoming detached from the gate, so has closed the navigation until further notice, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Five other closures

Since we have been away there have been five other closures within nine days during September:

1. 3rd Sunken boat in Lock 15 Grand Union
2. 5th Broken collar Lock 58 Soar
3. 5th Broken paddle Lock 14 Huddersfield Narrow Canal
4. 6th Broken paddle Lock 45 Soar
5. 11th Damaged sluice Lock 6 Aire & Calder
