Severe vandalism on Worcester & Birmingham

THERE has been, what can only be described as 'severe' vandalism on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal in recent days.

In addition to trees being vandalised a pound has also been drained on the waterway at Worcester, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Chain saw

The vandals have actually used a chain saw to partly cut into mature trees, obviously with the hope that they will fall over and cause damage and block the waterway. In addition a complete pound has been drained, leaving one boat on the bottom as shown in Jack Godfrey's photograph.

Nearly a dozen trees have been cut, all dangerously swaying in the wind leaving no option by for Canal & river Trust to close both the canal and towpath until the trees can be felled.

It was last week that vandals drained a pound, then over the week-end at Blackpole, North of Worcester, the trees were partly cut, all seemingly a concerted effort by vandals to close the canal.
