Now it's FOUR 'Narrow' lock failures!

IN ADDITION to the recent closures of three locks on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, another has now been closed.

Whilst the other three were fairly quickly attended to, the new failure at lock 19W is more significant, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Hole in lock side

A hole has appeared in the lock side and Canal & River Trust's contractors need to carry our urgent repairs.

As it is contractors work will not begin until next Monday 7th and will take about three weeks to complete meaning the repair will not be done until the 25th of September.

Passage permitted

However boat movements will be permitted at certain times depending on the work taking place at the time, with the lock open before 8am, and open for one hour from 1pm to 2pm and again after 4.30pm, meaning the passage will not be allowed whilst the actual work is in progress.

Though, with a hole appearing it is obviously an emergency repair, once again we are told the works 'are required as part of the Trust's ongoing planned maintenance and repair programme'.
