More towpath cycle crashes

Last Friday afternoon Roger Fox tells us he was on the Tame Valley Canal when two cyclists crashed head-on on the towpath.

He was at the bottom of the locks at Spaghetti Junction when an ambulance arrived, as it seems that two cyclists taking advantage of the new tarmac surface on the towpath had collided head on. One had injured legs and the other suffered a badly damaged face and lost at least two teeth.

Swerved to miss child

Another crash was on the somewhat narrow surfaced towpath between Sawley and Trent locks, David Beeston tells us, when a speeding cyclist swerved when a child pulled away from its mother and the cyclists finished up down the bank on the golf course green, with golfers calling out paramedics to attend to him. 'Luckily' he did not swerve the other way or else he would have landed in the Trent and possibly drowned.
