Peak Forest closure

THE 'leak' on the Peak Forest Canal is to be patched to enable boaters to use the canal over the Easter period but will then be closed for a more permanent repair.

The 'leak' that is on the Barlow Wood embankment, about a quarter of a mile from Marple Junction, toward Whaley Bridge, needs further investigation and repair Keith Gudgin tells us.

Drained

Though it will be patched to enable boaters to use the waterway over Easter, the canal will be closed on Monday 13th April to allow the pound to be drained to facilitate a more detailed inspection and work to be undertaken.

We are told that the work should take a week, with the waterway thus being closed for that period.
