Want burnt-out boat removing

Published: Thursday, 26 February 2015

FOR over a month there has been a burnt-out boat sitting on the bottom of the Wyrley and Essington Canal at Wednesfield, that local residents want removing.

People are not only concerned at the eyesore of the sunken boat, but that it could cause pollution, with Councillor Phil Bateman contacting Canal & River Trust over his concerns and asking that it be removed, Mick Fitzgibbons tells us.

No reply

However, he says that though he has both written and emailed, and though the boat has been there for a month, he is still waiting for a reply from the Trust.

He told that he has seen oil leaking out of the boat and a film of oil on top of the water, and there is the real fear of more pollution from the sunken boat and its effect on wildlife.
