WORK on the breach on the Aire & Calder Navigation should be finished by mid August.

The navigation, that was breached on the 20th December last year will have taken nearly eight months to repair, stopping both commercial and leisure traffic on this main Goole artery, Keith Gudgin reports.

The breach has been repaired but it will take until the middle of August to first raise the water levels to temporarily re-water the breach site to allow engineers to check the banks.

After this the levels will be lowered in order to allow the removal of the cofferdam, then the navigation will be re-watered.

Water levels affected

During this time the water levels will be affected from Ferrybridge to Goole on the Aire & Calder and to Sykehouse Lock on the New Junction Canal.

Canal & River Trust states that all should reopen in mid August, though no actual date is given.
