Still more houses by the canal

SOME ten years ago cruising through Burton-on-Trent on the Trent & Mersey Canal was fairly rural at its northern side, but massive development brought many houses.

If developers get their way, it will be even less rural as another massive development is being considered next to the waterway next to the Pirelli factory.

The proposals have been drawn up for a huge housing development, with St. Modwen hoping to build around 200 houses, after it purchased the redundant tyre giant's former retail division in 2005.

Long been expected

Councillors say the development by the Trent and Mersey Canal, has long been expected, but warn that added infrastructure will be needed to make it viable, with councillor Frank Bather complaining:

"However, the infrastructure has to be right. Stretton is saturated with new housing and no proper infrastructure has been put in. We need to look at that very carefully.

The public consultations will be held in the Tom Bradbury Lounge at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium between 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday, 20th October and from 11am to 3pm on Friday, 23rd October.
