KATHLEEN Smith poured petrol over her ex-lover's narrowboat as he slept inside, then set it alight a jury was told.

The jury at her trial at St Albans Crown Court heard the claim that she carried out the attack because she was angry that Jeremy Brewer had finished with her, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Rescued by fire crew

He had to be rescued from the blazing boat by a fire crew, telling that he woke up to find the boat on fire with him trapped inside at its moorings at Boxmoor.

The prosecution at the trial related that Kathleen Smith was aware that Jeremy Brewer was in the boat when she set fire to it.

The case continues.
