Boater ruins pump-out

THE pump-out facility at Wheaton Aston Services on the Shropshire Union Canal was closed on Tuesday after a boater had ruined it by using it to pump-out oil from his boat, Ralph Freeman tells us.

It left British Waterways with no option but to close the facility as the oil had damaged the pump and drainage system, which is at present being replaced.

A spokesman for British Waterway stressed that boaters should use the facility responsibly and within legislations, for the purpose it is designed.
