Could have been ill or dead!

There is another safety aspect to the How safe is your ash story as well, writes Bob Evans.

I have a second ash pan for my Morso Squirrel stove and tend to put the previous one under the stove until it cools completely.

High reading

I recently installed a carbon monoxide detector which counts the amount and displays it. I recently removed the pan thinking the ash was 'spent' and an hour later my detectors went off displaying a high reading.

Like the person who wrote your article, I found that there was still some glowing ash at the bottom of the pan, and of course, it was giving off carbon monoxide.

If I hadn't had the detectors, we would have been very ill or even dead !
