Woman dies rescuing her dog

A WOMAN was found with her dog under the ice of the frozen Cherwell—part of the Oxford Canal.

It seems the woman's terrier went on to the ice, fell through and she went on to the ice to rescue her pet, but fell through and drowned.

An overnight search for Ann Powles failed to find her, and it was not until a specialist search diver team scoured the river that they found her under the frozen waterway.

Many reports

There have been many reports of people with dogs on the frozen canals, with authorities advising people to keep off, and to keep dogs securely on leads.

Resident boater Adrian Fells tells us he is advising people to keep off the towpaths whilst they were covered with ice and snow as he saw two people slip onto the ice, which luckily held them, but remarks it is now thawing and is even more dangerous.
