Fire destroys another narrowboat

A NARROWBOAT was destroyed by fire yesterday (Tuesday) on the Staffs & Worcs Canal that was caused by the boat's stove.

The boat was moored at Greensforge Wharf, with the stove stoked-up to keep its interior warm while its owners went out, to come back to see it in flames, Alan Tilbury reports.

Totally gutted

The Watch Manager Lee Smart, of Kinver Fire Station,  told that the stove had caused other combustible materials on the boat to catch fire, with the craft totally gutted.

Time and time again boaters with stoves are told to make sure there are no combustible material near them, which is more important than ever  during this cold spell when wood and coal burning stoves are often at full capacity.
