DEVIZES annual Christmas lantern parade is being diverted to take in the Kennet & Avon Canal this year, to celebrate its birthday.

British Waterways and the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust have joined forces  in this endeavour, which will see the annual parade route diverted to Devizes Wharf, where the glow of the lanterns will help illuminate the canal during this, its special birthday year.

Lantern-making workshop

As part of the festivities both British Waterways and the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust are encouraging anyone who enjoys the canal to take part in the parade this year. To help potential participants get involved a special, waterway-themed lantern making workshop will be held at the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust shop and museum at Devizes Wharf on Tuesday 9th November 7 to 9pm. The workshop is free, but please ring to book your place on 01380 721279.

The lanterns produced at this session will be used to decorate the Wharf and carried in the Devizes Lantern Parade at the Christmas Festival on Friday 26th November 2010.
