THE motorist who drove along the ice of a canal has had his sentence deferred as he is already in jail.

Andrew Nisbet who nearly killed himself, his passenger and a dog by trying to drive on a frozen canal has had his sentence deferred has he had been jailed for another matter.

Began to sink

As the car eventually broke through the ice and began to sink, the two men and the dog hastily scrambled to safety from the Union Canal in January this year.

At Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday, Andrew Nisbet admitted reckless driving, but as he had been recalled to jail earlier this month the Sheriff, Martin Edington, agreed to defer sentence until reports were compiled.
