I was walking the dog along the Wendover Arm towards Bulbourne a couple of weeks ago when I tripped and fell into the canal, writes Howard Clarke.
I was unable to get out until a jogger stopped and helped me. I returned the next day find the cause of the soaking: a wooden peg protruding one and a half inches from the towpath which was original holding an edging for the towpath material.
Forcing walkers close to water
The bushes have encroached the path forcing walkers closer to the water. Thank goodness it wasn't mid winter. As seen, yellow paint has been added to the hazards.
I have reported this to CaRT who have assured me they will inspect and take the essential maintenance to make this safe again.
Half a mile away towards Wendover the Wendover Arm Trust have done a marvellous job on the restored canal stretch towpath.
