THOUGH IT WAS HOPED THAT Penkridge Lock on the Staffs & Worcs Canal would be reopened in time for Easter, it will not.

With work waiting for a liner for the culvert, Keith Gudgin reports.

However, we are told that the workers have successfully cleared the route of the bywash culvert, that was discovered, to the required size in preparation for the installation of the liner.

All the material that was washed into the canal bed has been removed, and brickwork repairs are continuing on site.

But now they are waiting for the culvert liner that is being manufactured, that has then to be installed.

Walsall Lock 5

Better news on the Walsall lock repair, as the failed paddle is hoped to be repaired and the navigation on the Walsall Canal reopened by the end of next week—just in time for Easter.

Providing all goes well.
