THE SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION of Burghfield Lock 103 have shown a gate severely damaged.

This is below the waterline Keith Gudgin reports.

The result is that the repair is not straightforward and could require dewatering of the lock on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

It was on the 17th January that is was discovered that a lock gate would not seal and the navigation was closed.

Below the waterline

Then a subsequent inspection revealed that the gate was severely damaged below the waterline. As a result, we are told the repair is not straightforward and is likely to require the dewatering of the lock.

The trust's engineering and construction teams are still currently assessing feasible repair options.

When this has been decided so can a repair be then carried out and information given as to a possible timescale of the lock being reopened.
