THERE IS TO BE a replacement footbridge over the Erewash Canal in Long Eaton.
This will link the town centre to the park by the side of the waterway and will replace the one that is in a poor state.
This will take place in November, with Erewash Borough Council people telling the decaying bridge that linked Broad Street to West Park over Erewash Canal would be shut off from 6th November so it could be dismantled.
Curved structure
This would be replaced by a dramatic curved structure, but would not be open until August of next year.
The bridge is widely used as by school children, who will then have to get across the canal by diversions that mean crossing the busy Derby Road while the new bridge was being constructed.
In addition to the new bridge, the project also includes a waterside terrace overlooking the Erewash Canal.
