No takers for pub

ANOTHER of British Waterways pubs feeling the pinch in the Steamboat Inn at Trent Lock at the bottom of the Erewash Canal.

This has been closed for many weeks, as the condition of the 'closed  untill further notice' (BW spelling) shows,  but though it's the start of the boating season and nearing Easter, not withstanding plenty of visitor activity at Trent Lock, with large car parks and a recently tarmac towpath, the pub remains forlorn and empty, as the photograph taken yesterday, Tuesday, testifies.

Investment

This was one of the pubs that was part of the 'investment' of British Waterways with Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprise, during 2005 and 2006, and as our Allan Richards tells was money that would have been better spent on maintenance.

Many boaters are telling us of similar closed pubs along the waterways that have been hit with the recession and closed, even after a great deal had been spent on refurbishment.
