Leeds & Liverpool Canal completely closed
NINE LOCK FLIGHTS on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal are now closed.
This virtually stops any effective navigation on the waterway, Keith Gudgin reports.
In closing more lock flights the trust tells that having very little rain has caused the decision, so it is 'extending the suspension of navigation along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal'.
It was the 13th May when four lock flights had reduced operating hours, then by the 22nd they were closed, with other flights added to the closure, but now there are nine flights closed.
The nine flights are:
* Wigan Lock Flight (Locks 85 to 65)
* Blackburn Lock Flight (Locks 57 to 52)
* Johnsons Hillock Lock Flight (Locks 64 to 58)
* Barrowford Lock Flight (Locks 51 to 45)
* Greenberfield Lock Flight (Locks 44 to 42)
* Bank Newton Locks (Locks 41 to 36)
* Gargrave Holme Bridge Lock (Locks 35 to 30)
* Bingley Three Rise
* Bingley Five Rise
Then all the locks onward to Leeds are also closed. Bingley Five Rise is shown in the image.
