Six more closures pile on
SIX MORE CLOSURES, starting with a swing bridge stoppage.
Kennet & Avon
This is West Mills Swing Bridge 62 on the Kennet & Avon Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.
And as with many others, again it is a mechanical fault.
Our being told that engineers have been notified and will be attending as soon as possible to resolve the problem.
Leeds & Liverpool
Another swing bridge is out of action—you've guessed!—on the Leeds & Liverpool of course.
This time it's the Bradley Swing Bridge 182A that is closed, with the reason being maintenance. But shouldn't that be lack of maintenance?
Huddersfield Narrow
We are told by the trust that Lock 3E is closed on the Huddersfield Narrow due to low water level.
But surely isn't the whole length of this canal alread closed?
Erewash again
Then it's the Erewash Canal again, with the navigation closed between Trent Lock 60 and Long Eaton Lock 61. This time due to a pump failure, so unable to maintain water level for navigation
The Trent
Then it's the Trent again, with a closure of Cromwell Lock 15, it being blamed on lack of dredging.
Then another Trent stoppage, making it six stoppages, with the same blame as lack of dredging, from Stoke Lock 10 to Hazelford Lock 12 being closed.
Leeds & Liverpool
And to add to boaters' woes the following flights on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal are all closed:
* Wigan Lock Flight (Locks 85 to 65)
* Blackburn Lock Flight (Locks 57 to 52)
* Johnsons Hillock Lock Flight (Locks 64 to 58)
* Barrowford Lock Flight (Locks 51 to 45)
* Greenberfield Lock Flight (Locks 44 to 42)
* Bank Newton Locks (Locks 41 to 36)
* Gargrave - Holme Bridge Lock (Locks 35 to 30)
