One day passage onto the Rochdale Canal
OWING TO LACK of water there is to be just a one day passage this month onto the Rochdale Canal.
This is as water cannot be held in the pounds of the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
Via Tuel Lane Locks
So there will only be passage onto the Rochdale Canal at its eastern end via Tuel Lane Locks on Friday 20th June between 10am and 3pm.
Before and after this date no information is available. But volunteers will be on hand to assist boaters through the locks.
Ever since late April there have be problems with the lack of water on this section of the Rochdale, at one time from Lock 1 to Lock 24, such is the leakage of many lock gates and suspected leaks from the waterway.
Continued investigations
We are told the closure is part of the trust's continued investigations. The picture is of our boat approaching the locks from under Tuel Lane road bridge in 2002.
