A LONG length of the towpath on the Oxford Canal is to be closed in the city from 6th January, 2025.
This is for installation of electrical eco moorings and cabling for boats, Janet Friend reports.
This will provide boaters with the ability to connect and not produce harmful fossil fuel emissions and is the start of helping climate change on the waterways.
No moorings
Work is anticipated to be completed by the 28th January and is a 24 hour towpath closure it being completely blocked off and no moorings allowed along the length or use by boaters.
Exemptions are included for pedestrian access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of the towpath..
For walkers and cyclists routes are posted at each end of the stoppage.
