Strange calculation for new bridge
THERE are plans by Derbyshire County Council for a bridge over the Erewash Canal in Long Eaton.
But it is only for walkers and cyclists, Janet Friend reports.
It is backed by a strange calculation with an agent for the council stating it is expected to be 330 cyclists per hour and this bridge was expected to see 550 cyclists per day!
Objections
There have been objections that the new bridge will not be suitable for wheelchairs uses it having steep ramps that they could not negotiate.
But it was also stated that this bridge would cut journeys down by a mile between existing bridges with the design compliant with Department for Transport advice and would provide a major benefit for Long Eaton.
It is expected that navigation on the waterways will be affected during its build.
