Erewash and Huddersfield Narrow canals still suffer lack of water

Published: Saturday, 21 September 2024

THE Erewash Canal is still suffering from lack of water.

With navigation closed this time between Sandiacre Lock 63 and Greens Lock 68, Keith Gudgin reports.

Canal & River Trust tells a lack of water in this area means we are struggling to raise the water level between Sandiacre Lock and Greens Lock on the Erewash Canal. Please do not travel along this section until further notice.

It continues to carry out water control every day to return the levels back to normal but this will take time.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is also still suffering lack of water with it affecting Locks 4E to 6E with the pounds empty forcing closure of navigation.

This time vandals are being blamed as tampering with locks.

Birmingham & Fazeley Canal is also suffering low water levels on Curdworth Lock Flight from locks 1 to 9.

However water is being run down so navigation is possible depending on the situation at the time.
