Wigan Flight faces another long stoppage

THE Wigan Flight on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal faces another long stoppage.
Lock 84, the second lock from the bottom of the flight is causing the stoppage, Keith Gudgin reports.
This has suffered a failed cill, and we are informed it will remain closed until repairs are completed.
Will not hold water
Owing to the leakage, the lock will not hold enough water to be able to open a gate, so it had to be closed.
There is no intimation when the repair will be completed.
The last cill failure on the Wigan Flight was earlier this year on Lock 73 of the flight, the contractors taking nine weeks to repair, so boaters would be wise to omit it from any cruising plans.
