IT SEEMS the restoration of the Cotswold Canals is back on the table.

Well, a mile of it anyway, as planning permission has been given by Stroud District Council to extend the Stroudwater Canal by a mile and eventually joining the derelict Cotswold Canals.

NarroRestorationAlready completed

The former British Waterways was adding the Cotswold Canals to its list of restorations it had already completed including such as the Rochdale, Huddersfield Narrow, Droitwich, Kennet & Avon, Ribble  and the Anderton Lift. The picture is part of the Huddersfield Narrow being restored.

The next was to be the restoration of the Cotswold Canals linking the Thames to the Severn via the Stroudwater, but came the Canal & River Trust and stopped it all.

Now there is an attempt at completing the mile that will include a basin for boats, but volunteers are wanted for the work.
