Worcester & Birmingham Canal should reopen next Monday
THE landslip on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal should be repaired and the canal reopened next Monday the 26th February.
It was in December that what was described as a 'small landslip' closed the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
But contractors discovered that the landslip was worse than thought, but they have made good progress, Canal & River Trust tell, and the contractors are 'expected to demobilise' this Friday, with the navigation then reopened on Monday.
Three weeks to complete
It was on Monday the 5th of February that contractors finally started work on clearing the landslip, the job taking exactly three weeks to complete.
Previously it was told that the job would take two weeks with the navigation reopened on the 19th, but that did not happen. No reason was given for the delay.
The landslip took place near the north east portal of Dunhampstead Tunnel.
