Lock unworkable three times this month

FOR the third time this month Whitley Lock (12) on the Aire & Calder is closed to navigation.

This time it is Floating Pennywort that is responsible, it not having been cleared, so having clogged the  lock at Eggborough, Keith Gudgin reports.

This has made the lock impossible to operate as the upstream entrance is completely blocked by the weed, so preventing the gates opening.

Previously this lock was closed to navigation on the 14th of this month through the electrics failing and again on the 17th with the new power pack then failing.
