THE Erewash Canal is closed yet again due to a shortage of water.
The leaking Stenson's Lock is not holding water so has drained the pound above making it unavigable.
Engineers expected this week
Engineers are expected to attend sometime this week in an attempt to resolve the matter.
The Erewash has been plagued with low pounds all year, with vandals mostly blamed for opening paddles, but badly fitting worn gates causing leaking are also responsible as in the current case.
The canal was originally fitted with anti-vandal locks under British Waterways, but these have either broken or been broken on most of the locks, allowing paddles to be easily opened by vandals.
