I AM ONE of the few, like obviously your goodselves, who walk my dog along the towpath whilst the boat is moving along the canal, writes John Belfry,
Which brings me to the state of the towpaths that has been in the news recently, with even the trust stating it is closing part of both the Oxford and Huddersfield towpaths as not being safe! Of that I was amazed that it admitted such a thing about its so marvellous 'wellbeing' towpaths.
Good for our health
The trust gives so much hype about walking the towpaths being so good for our health, but I find those around Nottingham are everything but, should you dare walk them at certain times of the day.  And now we have the e-scooters tearing about.
It really is best out in the country were mostly we have the towpaths to ourselves, for mile upon mile, as we have just done on the Four Counties Ring, though parts of the Shroppie were not so good for walking!
[Our picture shows the part of the Shropshire Union towpath John most likely refers to—Editor.]
