Falling like ninepins
THE waterways at the moment are falling like ninepins!
The week started with two closures on Sunday the 17th—the Rochdale and the Huddersfield Narrow—both regular failures, Keith Gudgin reports.
Then on the Monday 18th it built up to three failing waterways closed for one reason or another—the Trent, the Chesterfield and the Leeds & Liverpool.
Four failures in one day
Then it was still going up with no less than four failures on Tuesday 19th—The Regent's, the Huddersfield Narrow again and the Leeds & Liverpool again, then the Gloucester & Sharpness.
Today the Thursday 21st there are two failures—wait for it—the Huddersfield Narrow for the third time! And the Leeds & Liverpool for the second time.
Falling like ninepins doesn't cover it—11 closures in four days. And two more days to go to the end of the week.
