Plenty of updates
THERE were plenty of updates yesterday, Friday, concerning work not completed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Lock 79 on the Rochdale Canal at Miles Platting that was closed on Thursday has been discovered to have suffered a detached paddle within the lock chamber.
But only a temporary repair is being undertaken on Monday after the paddle has been retrieved during the weekend.
Leeds & Liverpool
Work continues on the leak in the canal bed between Crabtree Swing Bridge (32) and New Lane Swing Bridge (31) at Burscough on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, that was discovered on the 15th July.
Work is progressing but another site meeting will be taking place on Monday.
Peak Forest
Another lift bridge, this time Wood End Lift Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal, is out of action again, due to a failed bearing.
This is its second failure in July, following two more failures in June, with 'faults'.
Ure Navigation
The Ure Navigation is still closed after the stalk on Milby Lock (3) had broken from the downstream towpath side gate.
This has been delayed due to high water levels that have prevented access, it being stated work will commence on Monday, levels allowing.
Open
The repair to Wrenbury Lift Bridge (20) on the Llangollen Canal has been successful and navigation has resumed.
The repairs to Kilby Lock on the Grand Union are also completed and the navigation open.
