Barrier at last

A safety barrier costing £260,000 is to be installed at Skipton by the side of the waterway to prevent more deaths.

People are losing control of their vehicles at a bend in the road by the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Skipton, and going into the canal.

Two of the accidents caused fatalities with the death last year of 18 years old Charlotte Wade who died when her car crashed into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Then the year previously, two more teenagers, Sarah Woolmer and Larissa Moore  were killed when  their car crashed through railings into the canal.

Depending on approval, crash barriers could be installed at the site  later this year.
