'WORK in progress' is the phrase at the moment with stoppages.
Rochdale Canal
The parts for the repair of the 'structure failure' of the Guillotine Lock on the Rochdale Canal, that failed two weeks ago, have now been ordered, and are expected to arrive soon with the lock back in working order next week, Keith Gudgin reports.
The mechanism failed in early June, with the delay due to sourcing the parts required for its repair.
Wigan Flight
The Leeds & Liverpool Canal is still closed at Wigan Flight with a 'sinkhole' at Lock 69 appearing on the 14th of this month.
Investigations into the sinkhole are still continuing with Canal & River Trust telling that its North West Reactive Team have been progressing well with the work in casting a new cill at Lock 68 to stop the leakage.
The dams are also hoping to be removed next week, then pumps will be installed to make a safe working area. There is no intimation when the flight will be reopened.
Kennet & Avon Canal
The Kennet & Avon Canal has had its repaired lock gate returned from the workshop, with a dam installed to enable it to be installed.
The flight will have been closed five weeks as it failed on the 29th May and is intended being reopened on the 5th of July.
Oxford Canal
The Oxford Canal that was closed at Banbury Lock (29) on the 23rd June with a broken lock gate is being attended to with work 'progressing on site'.
We are informed repair will be completed in the shortest possible time frame.
