FIVE waterway closures this week at start of 'season'

THE closure yesterday, Wednesday, of Anthony Lock (77) on the Rochdale Canal makes it five waterways closures already this week.

And this just a day before the boating 'season' starts tomorrow on Good Friday, Keith Gudgin reports.

Paddle failure

Once again it is caused by a paddle failure, that all too often means the only working paddle on the lock gates.

The other failures this week are Leeds River Lock and Witley Lock on the Aire & Calder, Winkwell Swing Bridge on the the Grand Union and Ivy House Lift Bridge on the Caldon.
