THE Liverpool Link has achieved the top award by the Institution of Civil Engineers at its annual awards ceremony, held at Bolton.

British Waterways commissioned the scheme, which connects the Leeds & Liverpool Canal with Liverpool docks, and the judges remarked on the high level of co-ordination with adjacent projects of the scheme.

ICE North West director Alan Butler remarked:

"These were deemed to be vital at a time of intense regeneration activity along the entire Liverpool waterfront."

At the awards it was stated that the benefits of the Link include annual benefits which  include an estimated 4,500 boat trips straight into the city and 200,000 extra visitors spending £1.9m.
