Another boat burnt-out

Published: Wednesday, 10 February 2010

YET another boat has been wrecked by fire, this time at  Lathom near Ormskirk, on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Such was the blaze, that boaters at the same mooring released the burning boat as it had gas cylinders on board, and  were worried about the consequences of an explosion to their own boats.

Eventually sank

Fire crews attended, but the boat was well alight, and so badly damaged that it eventually sank.

There was no one on board at the time, and now British Waterways are involved with moving the wreckage.

Mick Winder, Watch Manager at Ormskirk Fire Station, reminds  boat owners without fire alarms on board, that they can contact Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service on 0800 169 1125 to have a Home Fire Safety Check.
