Welcome to the South Stratford Canal

JUST been on the South Stratford Canal, writes Dave Hargreaves.

A couple of pictures demonstrate the current neglect of the canal.

We are constantly told how health and safety is the number one priority on our canals. I don't see how that squares with the overgrown vegetation on both the lock landings and also at the side of the locks.

What do foreign visitors think?

More like a steeplechase course than a trip hazard. What an earth do our foreign visitors think of the conditions as we met many Americans and Germans on their way to Shakespeare's Stratford on Avon.

Will they be telling their friends to come and visit? Our hire companies need more business not this sort of neglect.
