Two weeks closure mid season for last winter's work

THERE is to be two weeks closure of the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation in July.

Closed middle of July

This is to lay a pipe—mid season—that should have been done last winter and will close the waterway from Monday the 11th of July to Monday the 25th of July, Keith Gudgin reports.

It is obviously being undertaken by contractors who more and more need full weeks to complete a job...

The replacement pipe is from Tinsley Pump House to Lock 1 on the Tinsley Flight in Sheffield, cutting the basin off for the two weeks, as the locks will be chained-up.

Another stoppage

There was another stoppage on this waterway this week when Waddington Lock at Swinton failed due to an hydraulic failure, but this time was quickly attended to by the trust's own team, and the navigation reopened.
