Model boats plan for Stratford Canal Basin withdrawn

PLANS to allocate a section of the Stratford Canal Basin in the Bancroft Gardens for model boats have been withdrawn almost as soon as they were announced, writes Roger Fox.

However, a revised proposal is in the pipeline. It is unclear as to whether CaRT are behind the idea or whether they are endorsing it.

Safety concerns

Model boating ponds and lakes are regularly quite shallow and have surrounding paths which are close to the waterline. This is not the position at Stratford and use of the basin for this purpose would create quite unnecessary safety concerns, probably requiring constant supervision.

And that is not to mention the disturbances caused by the normal boat movements which might easily swamp model vessels.
