Has the Trent dried-up?

THE Trent at Alrewas feeds the Trent & Mersey Canal right down to Derwent Mouth Lock where it rejoins the river.

Yet Canal & River Trust state that there are low levels between Derwent Mouth Lock and Shardlow Lock, Keith Gudgin reports.

Leaks into gullies

The leakage out of the canal is well known with water escaping into gullies along its way, but surely the river flow can cope, but it seems not with the warning for boaters to take care.

The actual leakage though Derwent Mouth bottom gates—with a top gate swinging open—that has become worse, is obviously not helping matters over this final pound to the river.
