Looks bad for the Rochdale at Newton Heath

THE Canal & River Trust tell that an 'issue' has closed the Rochdale Canal.

There is an 'issue' with Lock 72 at Newton Heath that has closed the navigationm, Keith Gudgin reports.

'Blown' cill

Further Inspections of the lock discovered that it could be a 'blown' cill, but more inspections are required and then some idea of its repair will be known.

However, 'blown' cills, as broken cills are now called, are usually a long job under contractors, and the navigation north of Manchester could be closed for quite a while.
