A MASSIVE £1bn expansion north of Oxford is to take place along the canal corridor.

Design competition

Oxford University has announced an international design competition for the £1bn expansion north of the city, Roger Fox reports.

Its four hectare Begbroke Science Park will become a 190 hectare mixed-use  district with hundreds of homes and community amenities as well as research and development facilities and space for companies for research.

New bridges over the canal

The development will follow the A44 that passes over the Oxford Canal at King's Bridge (230) north of the city, but there is no intimation of how it will affect the waterway, other than that there will be new bridges over the canal.

The plan shows the site as suitable for 1,950 homes, three schools, a local centre with businesses, a cafe and a community centre. Also included will be sports facilities and a nature reserve, new bridleways and bridges over the Oxford Canal.
